Privacy Policy

Before the details

Here’s the short version: when you use our AI background removal tool, your image is processed directly in your own browser and is never uploaded to or stored on our servers. We don’t see it, store it, or share it. (If you later enable an optional third-party API mode, that provider’s own privacy terms will also apply — see Section 4.)

For everything else (how we handle contact forms, newsletter sign-ups, cookies, and analytics), read on below.

This Privacy Policy explains how [Removebg] (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you visit [https://removebg.info/] (the “Service”).

Children: Our Service is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age of consent in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Images you process

When using the default (client-side) background removal engine, your images are processed locally in your browser using WebAssembly. They are not transmitted to, or stored on, our servers.

If the site owner has enabled “External API” mode instead, uploaded images are sent securely (HTTPS) to the configured third-party service for processing and are typically deleted by that provider shortly after processing. See Section 4 for more detail.

1.2 Information you provide directly

If you contact us, subscribe to our newsletter, or create an account (where applicable), we may collect your name, email address, and the content of your message.

1.3 Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our server and analytics tools automatically collect certain technical data when you visit, including:

  • IP address and approximate location
  • Browser type, device type, and operating system
  • Pages visited, time spent, and referring website
  • Cookie identifiers (see Section 2)

We use this information to operate the Service, understand usage patterns, and improve site performance and security.

2. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Remember your preferences (e.g., selected language)
  • Understand how visitors use our site (analytics)
  • Keep the site secure

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some site features. [If you use Google Analytics or similar tools, list them here, e.g.: “We use Google Analytics to help us understand site usage. Learn more or opt out at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.”]

3. Legal Basis for Processing (EU/UK Visitors)

Where applicable, we process personal data on the following legal grounds:

  • Consent — for newsletter sign-ups and non-essential cookies
  • Legitimate interest — for site security, analytics, and service improvement
  • Contract — to respond to your inquiries or provide requested services
  • Legal obligation — where required by law (e.g., accounting records)

4. Third-Party Services

Depending on configuration, our Service may use:

  • Client-side AI libraries (e.g., open-source background-removal models) that run entirely in your browser and do not transmit your image anywhere.
  • Optional external background-removal APIs, if enabled by the site owner, which process the image on their servers under their own privacy policy.
  • Analytics providers (e.g., Google Analytics) to understand site traffic.
  • Email/newsletter providers to manage mailing list subscriptions.

We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of any third-party services listed above for details on how they handle data.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share limited information with:

  • Service providers who help us operate the Service (e.g., hosting, analytics, email delivery), bound by confidentiality obligations
  • Authorities, where required by law
  • A buyer, in the event of a business sale or merger (with equivalent privacy protections)

6. Data Retention

We retain personal data (such as contact form submissions or newsletter subscriptions) only as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected, or as required by law. Since images processed via the default engine are never sent to our servers, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on your behalf in that case.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time (where processing is based on consent)
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 9.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Significant changes may also be communicated via email or a site notice.
